Welcome to Catfish Press!
I'm Sam Moore, the editor. (That's a pic of me at Dragon*Con 2011) Glad to meet you.
And if you were wondering, our wonderful logo was designed by Tom Grosskopf, artist extraordinaire.
We're a small press headquartered in beautiful Saltillo, Mississippi. That's a small town just north of Tupelo (birthplace of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley, for those of you with a map and a sense of direction). We will be publishing four books a year (that's the goal, anyway) in any and all genres.
But why Catfish? That's the question I've been asked by several people. The answer is two-fold. First, if there is one thing you can say about Mississippians, it's that we love catfish. And as a native of this great state, I am no exception.
Second, there is a biological anomaly inherent in catfish that most people know nothing about. Unlike all other animals on the planet, the catfish has no gene to tell it to stop growing. For this reason, a catfish will only grow as large as the container in which it is placed. Catfish in a lake will generally grow to be a couple of feet long. Catfish in commercial aquariums tend to get up to five or six feet long. Catfish out in the rivers and waterways, on the other hand, have been seen upwards of a dozen feet and more. Essentially, catfish never stop growing.
And that's my hope for this press. I hope we never stop growing. We're adding new authors and new works all the time. We're looking to branch out not only into traditional books, but also into comics and graphic novels. Like the catfish we're named after, we want to grow...and grow...and grow.
So find a shady spot next to the river. Sit down, kick your shoes off, and see what Catfish Press has to offer.
